Mercedes-Benz develops many current and next-generation performance drivetrains, taking a leadership position in the industry and providing options for customers today and in the future.
Powertrain & eDrive Team takes responsibility for localizing and calibrating for North American markets and for developing all new powertrain software for all Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles. The team also researches high voltage battery technology, powertrain electronics, vehicle charging systems and e-mobility.
Development extends deep into the electrical and electronic systems that control new powertrains.
Powertrains are developed and validated with extensive testing resources including state-of-the-art equipment such as chassis emission and electric powertrain characterization dynos. The combination of development, testing and validation resources in one team results in real-world achievements such as the launch of the first Mercedes-Benz hybrid powertrain. It also allows supporting NAFTA development durability testing and tracking planned life-cycle changes for powertrains.
New powertrains drive the wheels of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars, AMG cars, Daimler Trucks and Mitsubishi Fuso trucks. Developing for the North American market ensures compliance with US safety and emissions standards.
